• Phone • Website I was born in Vancouver B.C. and grew up in Kamloops. As a young child I loved to draw and paint. My mother was an artist and I used to sit by her side and paint. Of course I would tend to copy her picture rather than look at the original! As a student in school, my note books would be covered in doodles and designs and I would often be in trouble for drawing while the teacher was talking. At home, I dabbled mostly in oil painting. After graduating from High School I was off to The University of British Columbia where I completed my degree in education. I became an elementary teacher and taught for several years before my husband and I started a family. While I was a stay-at-home mom I immersed myself in music. I participated in choirs, sang lead roles in operettas, did solo work and taught voice lessons. I returned to teaching school in 1989 and now am semi-retired. I began painting in watercolors in the fall of 2006. I love the freshness and transparency of the medium, and the bright colors one can achieve on paper. I also enjoy the challenges and the surprises the medium can bring. For the past several years, I have been working mostly in oils and a little in acrylics. Nature is my favorite subject to paint. It wears many faces and challenges me to capture the beauty and interplay of light and shadows. To me, nature is God’s art and if I can capture His light and life in my paintings, then I have achieved my goal. My very first painting in 2006 was a commission. Since then I have done more. I have enjoyed entering many local shows as well as juried shows in Kamloops, Armstrong and Salmon Arm and have sold many of my paintings. A number of my paintings have received juror's awards. I am an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and also belong to Vernon's Okanagan Artists of Canada Society. I presently live in Vernon BC with my husband Barrie. |
