2024 - YOUTH ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE EXHIBIT - VCAC
OPENING RECEPTION - Thursday, August 22, 6-8 pm
Exhibit runs August 22 to September 10 - Daily 9:30am to 5pm
2024 - YOUTH ARTISTS PROGRESS UPDATE
Our Youth Artists in Residence - YAR, have been quite active creating in their studio, attending different classes at VCAC, and connecting with experienced artists who have kindly provided demo sessions for them. Among the classes they have attended are Open Art with Tina Siddiqui, Lino Block Printing with Svetlana Shkuratova, and Cyanotype with Christine Kashuba.
There were three demo sessions organised for our youth artists: Sabrina Boulay met with Magnus Peacock to share her skills and knowledge about clay. Wendy Hart Penner did a session with Mayah Fawcett-Martselos and Jackie Janek painting birds with oil paints. Olha Retunska shared her expertise on watercolour painting. Also, our marketing coordinator Emma Kopp met with the YAR artists to share her knowledge regarding marketing artwork.
Svetlana Shkuratova has been training the Youth Artists in Residence on artist practices, for example; writing an artist bio and an artist statement. They have submitted their artist bios and are working on their artist statements. Svetlana will also cover the following topics: Preparing artwork for an exhibition; wiring, matting, photographing, pricing, and hanging artwork.
Jackie is working on her bird studies and paintings, Mayah has been exploring different topics, and Magnus is focusing on an indigenous ribbon skirt and bead work.
The YAR Exhibition is scheduled to run from August 22 to September 11.

Each year, our club sponsors the VCAC Summer Youth Artists in Residence. This year, there were 3 deserving students! Jacqueline Janek, Mayah Fawcett-Martselos and Magnus Peacock. Each student received a $250 GC for the Vernon Community Arts Centre for art supplies. It's our way of supporting the next generation of artists and celebrating our club motto, "Artists Helping Artists".
Follow their creative journey with us this summer, from July 2 to August 23. Save the date for their featured exhibit, happening from August 22 to September 10.

Meet our 3 Youth Artists in Residence and two lovely ladies from the Okanagan Artists of Canada Society. Pictured Left to Right: Nancy Vince, Chantelle Jobagy, David Barnes, Jess Moir and Gail Hall.
These young artists have been provided with dedicated studio space upstairs for the next 6 weeks where they will each create a body of work to be shown to the public starting August 27th! Mark that date in your calendar and we'll provide more details as we get closer to the day.
On behalf of the OACS, each artist has received $250 to purchase art supplies for their residency. This program would not be possible without their generous donations! We thank you!
