Valerie Rogers, Nature & Wildlife Artist
In this hands-on two day Valerie Rogers workshop participants will be painting natural realism. It will be all about how to create a satisfying painting that generates a feeling of connection with an animal featured.

It will be focused on the use of light with lost and found edges to define the subject and ground it in the nature around it.
In our planning we will consider what details are the most important to include in our artwork and what to discard or minimize. Our questions will be.... What is the special moment in time that this painting will represent? What materials to use and how to prepare both our surface and drawing before beginning to paint? What will be our colour scheme and why? Then we will jump in and enjoy creating.

Techniques will be demonstrated throughout the workshop followed by time for participants to ask questions and then apply the techniques themselves. It will be a fun workshop - all about creating artwork that shares our appreciation of nature and wildlife.

Valerie Rogers is a naturalist painter. Her art reflects her intense fascination with the natural world. She feels there is a magic in recognizing another life form and paying it the respect it deserves. Her paintings focus on the nature and wildlife of Canada. She has recently won the 2023-24 Pacific Salmon Stamp competition and has been awarded Wildlife Federation Artist of the Year twice and GOBC Artist of the year also. The sale of her artwork supports the conservation of North American wildlife and their habitats.
