I finally started painting in 2008 after retiring from my teaching career and it still amazes me that for nearly 33 years, I did not know that I would love painting. How could I miss that? The blessing in being a late bloomer is that I actually had the time to paint once I finally got started. I began experimenting with both water colours and acrylics and I still find each medium challenging and fascinating. My subject matter has expanded from flowers, still life arrangements, and landscapes to include portraits, animals, and abstracts. I love colour and texture and have started experimenting with mixed media. Finding a passion like this has made my transition to retirement such a joy. Finally I am paying attention and the world is beautiful. |
