Art is in everything I see whether or not I’m in the process of drawing or painting. Art is when I look at something and study its lines, shape, colour and texture and imagine how to capture it in a painting. Sometimes I’m more interested in the shadow it casts or the light shining through it. I like to see the beauty in the simple things such as a bowl or a pear and to create what I visualize. Art is the essence of the feeling it evokes. Any subject can challenge me to paint it. It isn’t always what I thought it would look like but a process of layering paints until I am satisfied with the outcome. I have worked in every medium but am partial to oil painting as I love the blending of paints and how you can move the paint across the canvas. It is important to my well being and something I like to share with others as I see the benefit of creating art in a therapeutic manner. I have volunteered in a rehab hospital painting with people on the geriatric ward and with disadvantaged youth. I believe that as music, art expresses a universal language. When I am painting, I am truly in my happy place. |
